HydraFacial works to deeply cleanse, exfoliate, and hydrate skin. VI Peels and SkinPen® are designed to treat acne, minimize pores, balance texture, and smooth skin.

VI Peel

Chemical peels are intended to remove the outermost layers of the skin. To accomplish this task, the chosen peel solution induces a controlled injury to the skin. We personalize our chemical peel treatments to fit your individual skincare needs. A chemical peel involves using acid solution alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and other chemical peels to remove damaged outer layers of the skin.

Post-care

Treatment options can range in recovery times from zero downtime to a 1-week recovery.

• Gently cleanse your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser.
• Don’t pick or pull your skin at any time after your peel, as it can cause scarring.
• Your skin will take about 4 to 7 days to completely peel depending on the strength of the peel or treatment you received. Chemical peels on the body, chest, or arms often takes longer (up to 3 weeks).
• Please do not exfoliate using a cleansing brush or any facial scrub or acid based products for 2 weeks; longer if peel is done on the body.
• Do not use any products that contain AHA, Glycolic, Retin-A, or any acne medication until your skin has finished peeling (usually 7 days, but possibly longer).
• Keep skin well hydrated by drinking at least three 8-ounce glasses of water per day, and moisturizing throughout the day with a good moisturizer both day and night.
• Refrain from waxing, tanning, or using sunbeds for 3 weeks.
• Avoid working out and sweating for at least 24 hours and up to 48 hours.
• SPF 30 or higher consistently throughout the day. Reapplying is so important for this will limit your skin from burning in the sun (even when it’s cloudy out or when sitting by a window) and will minimize the chances of more sun damage and discoloration.

Discuss your health history with your HerMD aesthetic provider and let them know if you have any of the following:

Current or history of skin cancer, permanent makeup, permanent implant, recent filler or wrinkle relaxer treatment, pregnant or nursing, history of herpes simplex, impaired immune system, uncontrolled diabetes or thyroid dysfunction, active skin disorders in the treatment area, history of keloid scarring, recent surgeries, recent chemical peel or laser treatment, isotretinoin use in last 6 months, or current anticoagulant use.

Please note: our team may recommend we pre-treat or test a spot before the appointment to avoid any adverse outcomes. Your safety is our priority!

Prior to treatment please avoid

• Sun exposure, tanning bed, sunless tanner x 2 weeks.
• Filler, wrinkle relaxer, chemical peels, laser treatments near appointment. (discuss timeline with provider).
• Excessive caffeine, alcohol, fish oil, NSAIDs (such as aspirin & ibuprofen), and vitamin E 2-3 days before and after treatment to minimize potential for bleeding/bruising.
• Stop retinol and use of active ingredient products (Benzoyl peroxide, Salicylic acid, Glycolic acid, ect) 2-3 days prior to treatment.

What to expect day of treatment

• Please arrive with a clean face– no make-up, lotions, powders or perfumes.
• Arrive at the office at scheduled appointment time. We will take photos and apply topical numbing for 30-60 minutes depending on the treatment area.
• After numbing we will begin treatment targeted to your specific concerns and needs.
• Some discomfort is expected but we have multiple tools to help guide you through the treatment.

Post Care

• Immediately after treatment, most patients will experience erythema (redness) for 1-3 days, however for more aggressive treatments this may last longer. Slight to moderate edema (swelling) and a mild to moderate sunburn sensation are also common post treatment and may last 1-3 days. Skin may crust and peel for 2-7 days depending on treatment settings.
• Before discharge a topical ointment may be applied to the face. No bandages or wraps are necessary.
• There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently, avoid scrubbing or trauma to the treated area.
• Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation.
• The use of a zinc oxide sunblock SPF 30+ at all times after 24-48 hours.
• Multiple treatments over a period of several months may be required to achieve the desired response.
• Avoid icing the area for 48 hours.
